Orange County Cub Scout Day Camp Programs

Drawing upon more than 20 years of dentistry experience, Jasleen Brar, DDS, operates AA Family Dental, where she provides dental health services to community members and local high school sports teams. Outside of her professional pursuits, Jasleen Brar, DDS, regularly supports the Orange County Council - Boy Scouts of America (OCBSA).

Every summer, OCBSA offers several day-camp programs for Cub Scouts and their families to explore the outdoors, make new friends, and learn new skills. With 10 different camps running throughout June and July, every family will be able to find one that best fits their schedule. In addition to day and twilight camps, OCBSA offers co-ed camps and camps that welcome younger siblings. All camp experiences include BB guns, archery, and sports and games.

This year’s first scheduled camp runs from June 13 to 15 at Irvine Ranch Historical Park in Irvine, California. There are also four-day camps at O'Neill Park, Firestone Scout Reservation, and Harper Fields, among other locations. Scouts are allowed to participate in as many camps as they would like.

An Overview of the Invisalign Treatment Process

Jasleeen Brar, DDS, serves as one of two general dentists on staff with AA Family Dental Group in Tustin, California. Patients rely on Jasleen Brar, DDS, and her team for a variety of preventive and cosmetic procedures, including Invisalign braces, which are a nearly invisible alternative to metal braces.

The Invisalign process begins with an initial consultation, which allows the patient to discuss expectations and ensure that the procedure is the right choice. Next, a custom treatment plan is created using scanner technology that creates a precise, three-dimensional image of the patient’s teeth. The desired movement of teeth is mapped, which gives patients a sense of how long the treatment will take. Also, the software gives the patient a chance to get a preview of the final product.

Using the individual treatment plan, a number of custom aligners are made, which should be worn between 20 and 22 hours each day. The SmartTrack Invisalign material is made to be virtually invisible when worn. With each new set of aligners, teeth gradually move into the desired place. The orthodontist keeps track of progress at every stage to ensure success.

Once treatment is complete, patients maintain their smile by wearing a custom retainer made from the same material as the Invisalign aligners.

How Cavities Form in Teeth

Jasleen Brar, DDS, serves as part of the general dentistry team at AA Family Dental Group. In this role, Jasleen Brar, DDS, draws on an in-depth understanding of tooth decay.

Numerous types of bacteria live inside a healthy human mouth. When a person ingests foods rich in sugars or carbohydrates, some of these bacteria interact with these substances to form acids. With time, these acids begin to wear away the surface of teeth.

Acids work by eating away at the minerals that give enamel its strength. In the early stages of this process, teeth can rebuild lost enamel with help from naturally occurring saliva and additions of fluoride. If this does not occur quickly enough to compensate for the mineral loss, however, the enamel weakens to the point that it becomes soft and eventually develops a cavity.

If left untreated, cavities can penetrate the inner layers of the teeth. This can lead to intense discomfort and can prompt the body to fight the infection through the production of white blood cells, which in turn may cause a dangerous abscess.

Dental Inlays and Onlays - An Introduction

Jasleen Brar, DDS, cares for patients through AA Family Dental Group in Tustin, California. As a dentist, Jasleen Brar, DDS, focuses particularly on inlays, onlays, and other cosmetic dental procedures.

Also known as partial crowns, inlays and onlays can be used to restore teeth when traditional fillings are deemed insufficient. Like traditional crowns, they provide strength and stability support, though typically with less loss to tooth structure.

An inlay is appropriate for situations in which the exterior circumference of the tooth is free from damage. The material for an inlay is placed in the center of the tooth, whereas an onlay fits over at least one corner or the tooth's entire chewing surface. Both are custom fit to the tooth and thus require in-depth preparation.

An inlay or onlay require the dentist to remove the decayed portion of the tooth and take an impression, which then goes to a professional laboratory. This laboratory creates a porcelain, metal, or composite restoration. While the laboratory is preparing the final product, the patient wears a temporary restoration.

At the patient's second visit, the dentist uses cement to set the restoration in place. The stability of this cement, in combination with the custom fit of the restoration itself, create a reliable and stable long-term solution for decay or damage.
